Tony Hoodless is the Director and Export Consultant for the Business
Development Group - North. He brings to the organisation a practical
"hands on" support to businesses already exporting and also
those who are looking to venture into the market for the first time.
Most companies have an Export potential which very often is unrealised
due to lack of resources within the organisation. Fear, also, often
restricts those companies who recognise that potential and frequently
Tony is confronted by such cases. But, as he points out, every day government
departments are flooded with enquires from overseas for products, services
and skills that are to be found within the UK 's small and medium sized
enterprises. One of the important factors in successful exporting is
information and Tony's experience in obtaining the vast amounts available
has proved invaluable to numerous UK and Overseas companies. Many overseas
associate organisations providing this information are sponsored or
subsidised by their governments and guidence can be given for obtaining

Qualifications and Experience
Following a 20 year UK and International career within the Materials
Handling Industry, culminating in a senior management position, Tony
returned to the UK in 1995 to fully utilise his overseas experience
and to develop an international distributor network for a leading UK
company. As a member of the Institute of Export and with his language
skills, he has proven experience in the European market place, spending
5 years living on the mainland directing the European sales organisation
for a multi national company.
Tony's background was spent in Engineering, from an apprenticeship in
medium engineering, through to the heavy steelmaking industry. He began
his commercial career after a supervisory position in site installation
and within 5 years was promoted to a Regional Sales Manager responsible
for sales in excess of £1.5 million. Since then he has demonstrated
a track record of supplying practical hands on support, together with
the ability to tap into numerous resources available for the benefit
of industries throughout the UK.
