Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 
The legal definition of manual handling is:
Any transporting or supporting of a load.
- Lifting
- Putting Down
- Pushing
- Pulling
- Carrying or Moving
By hand or by bodily movement.
The regulations introduced the requirement to assess all work activities for Manual Handling to (i) Avoid Manual Handling Operations as far as is reasonably practicable (ii) Assess any hazardous Manual Handling operations that cannot be avoided and (iii) Reduce the risk of injury as far as is reasonably practicable. Recent estimates suggest that over 50 million working days are lost each year because of back problems. The HSE has over 50,000 injuries due to Manual Handling accidents reported to them each year.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS TRAINING COURSE?
Anyone who carries out actions that are covered by the LEGAL definition of manual handling.
WHAT DOES IT COVER?
Duties of employers and employees, types and sites of injuries, causes, guidelines for lifting and lowering, six steps for a safe lift, carrying, unloading, pushing and pulling, practical exercises, video and manual handling assessment.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
The session duration is half a day and at the end of the course you will be awarded an attendance certificate.
